The Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 Iron and Steel Production Complex is a strategic industrial megaproject located in the Dung Quat Economic Zone, Quang Ngai Province, developed by Hoa Phat Group—Vietnam’s largest steel manufacturer.
Key Highlights:
- Total Investment: VND 85 trillion (approx. USD 3.5 billion)
- Site Area: 279 hectares
- Designed Capacity: 5.6 million tons/year
- 4.6 million tons of hot rolled coil (HRC)
- 1 million tons of special-grade steel
- Technology: European-standard continuous casting and rolling lines, ultra-large 2,500m³ blast furnaces (double the size of Dung Quat 1), and advanced environmental systems to reduce CO₂ emissions and energy consumption.
Construction & Execution:
- Construction began in Q1/2022, with Coteccons as the lead contractor applying fast-track methods to accelerate progress without compromising quality.
- Over 15,000 hours of safe construction have been logged, with more than 100 major components underway.
- Phase 1 is expected to be operational by early 2025, with full capacity reached by late 2025.
Economic & Social Impact:
- Will create approximately 13,600 jobs, with 80% local employment
- Aims to elevate Hoa Phat’s position as a leading steel producer in Southeast Asia
- Supports Vietnam’s industrial growth and self-sufficiency in high-quality steel for sectors like automotive, construction, and manufacturing.
